Dodd made his theatrical debut aged 23 at the Empire Theatre, Nottingham. Five years later he was the star of the long running BBC series, The Ken Dodd Show, broadcast from a theatre stage, which established him as one of the leading comedians of his day. The show featured an array of guest performers as well as 'The Diddymen', Dodd's sidekick creations played by children in pantomime costume or puppets. To this day, 'The Diddymen' are a key part of his stage performances.
